It’s official!
Ewelme is a GOOD school with many OUTSTANDING features!
Many of you will be interested to know that Ewelme School was inspected by Ofsted on 16 October 2007.
Under the new Inspection system we had two days to prepare! The Inspector came in to assess the school’s performance.
Having looked at a range of documents and plans provided by the school, the Inspector spent a day talking to the headteacher, children, staff, parents and governors and assessing and validating the performance of the school.
There are four possible ratings for a school following an Ofsted inspection: unsatisfactory, satisfactory, good and outstanding. We were delighted to achieve the status of a GOOD school overall with many OUTSTANDING features. The Inspector advised us that the school was on the cusp of being outstanding and particularly complemented the headteacher, Mr Andrew Markham, on his leadership describing it as ‘inspirational’.
The areas highlighted as outstanding include results at age 11, personal development of the children (excellent social, spiritual, moral values and behaviour), pastoral care and the breadth of curricular provision – as well as the core subjects, all children have the opportunity to develop their ICT skills and learn French. All other areas were recognised as good.
Two issues were identified for further development and it was acknowledged that these were already being addressed by the headteacher. They are summarised as:
The governors, headteacher, staff and children are very proud of the school and its achievements. We know that Ewelme School is unique. Housed in Grade 1 listed buildings dating back to 1437, we are very proud of our heritage. Our aim is to become an exceptional small school, providing outstanding education, built upon a strong religious foundation within the heart of the village of Ewelme.
