Parish Council Notes (5th Dec 2006)
about the SID end-of-trial meeting on 5 December 2006
Attended by Steve Wood, Ian Grant, Mark Whittaker, Don Cummings, Neil Blake and Sue Hill
- SID had been used in Green Lane, Cat Lane, Benson Road, High St and Eyres Lane.
- Results: worst speeding had been in Green Lane. Not only cars and vans but also Grundons, Hazel & Jefferies lorries, school and public buses. Other places trialled the level of speeding was around 25%.
- Options for reducing speeding in Green Lane:
- Chicane
- Consistent police presence felt not to be practical
- Electronic signs
- Two traditional speed bumps
- Inflatable speed bump
- Camera (not an option as there is no casualty history)
- Ground screw for a regular mobile vehicle activated sign
- It was agreed that Steve would arrange to put a speed box in Green Lane to record data so that there is evidence to pursue the speed bump option.
- When data is obtained Sue H to contact Pete Ronald requesting speed bumps. Steve to also mention to Pete Ronald. If not possible then investigate casualty prevention fund.
- Find out NAG priorities to see if speeding is one of them, try and use NAG/Community Police for advice/help for a more permanent solution instead of the present ad hoc enforcement.
- Include speeding problem in Parish Plan.
- Fire and rescue initiative, 365 Alive - Steve to liaise with them re attending RAF base to discourage speeding.
- For rest of village Speedwatch signs to be placed and moved round village.
