Who would have expected such an incredible response to my whinging and moaning in the last editorial in the News! I was warning villagers about the lack of response in the forthcoming parish council elections and saying that we could easily be taken over by SODC or even Benson. The elections on the 3 May were excellent – Ewelme fielded 10 candidates for the 6 available places. Poor old Benson didn’t have enough candidates to even need an election. Well done Ewelme!
The results of the Parish Council elections were:
Theresa Arekion 128 votes *
Tat Attwood 107 votes
Andy Climpson 87 votes
David Cooper 175 votes *
Melissa Fletcher 139 votes *
Doors Hendrie 62 votes
Paul Humphrey 124 votes *
Peter Lemaire 224 votes *
Vernon Miners 206 votes *
Kerry Sawyer 105 votes
As you can see the voting was close and the new Parish Councillors have an asterisk beside their name.
Thank you villagers for turning out and voting. Many parishes in the area were not as fortunate as Ewelme – at least we had a list of candidates and many villagers willing to cast their democratic vote! I trust that we shall see more ‘spectators’ now at the Parish Council meetings which we shall start at 8 pm and endeavour to conclude by 9:30 pm.
